You’ll Never Walk Alone

Commissioned for Veins of Existence: Alter-ego(isms) satellite event in conjunction with Veins of Existence: Beyond Survival curated by Sean Sandusky, Xpace Cultural Centre, July 2018.

Queer loneliness, as a result of isolation by societal other-ing, is juxtaposed with queer practices of chosen family infrastructure, in which familial dynamics, relationships, and benefits are simulated and performed outside the standard heteronormative hegemony. Using Nina Simone’s piano rendition of the Carousel standard “You’ll Never Walk Alone” I synthesize a siren call of queer solidarity to combat the persistent socio/political disenfranchisement that plagues our community.
